Reviews 2 TON PREDATOR - IN THE SHALLOW WATERS - DIEHARD
How can I take a band who can't write correctly seriously? I mean, would you take an illiterate band's lyrics seriously? Of course not. These hardcore Swedes, with lines like 'Your nothing but a whore' and 'You want to stabb me', etc manage to get both grammar and spelling wrong. Yuck! Anyway, this particular bunch has been around since 1992 and persevered to finally release their very neo-metal CD through a bunch of Danish capitalists (ie Diehard Records) and it is not an exaggeration to say that they are inspired by Meshuggah, Crowbar et al. The sound is big and pounding, and while a song like Hole in My Mind reeks of Alice in Chains, tracks like Burned are more from the Crowbar side of the moon. And that's the way it goes. Then again there is Backstabber with its Type O Negative theme and refrain, but yeah the Pantera school of tough guy muzak is what this is all about. - Ali "The Metallian"
2 TON PREDATOR - BOOGIE - DIEHARD
Far from being a Molly Hatchet or AC/DC style boogie album, the sophomore venture of the Swedish four is the stuff in which fans of Crowbar, Pantera and COC would take pleasure. Big riffs, macho shouted and hoarse yelling (a cross between Pantera and Cathedral), danceable drumming, you know the routine. Not exactly a metal fan's bread and butter, but fans of power rock and crossover will not find the power or spirit lacking on this album. This gang might have in fact absorbed something from a band that I am not certain is still active: Transport League. Lyrically the band have conceived a diverse collection of tunes from the sexual as in Downright Evil and murderous on Duct Tape Story to a good old fashioned nationalistic ode on Hail From Sweden. The band will shortly tour Europe with Crowbar and Entombed. - Ali "The Metallian"
