History & Biography Jerez, Spain's Anvil Of Doom was formed in 1996 as Akelarre by Alvaro, Dario, Hector and Javier. The name was changed to Anvil Of Doom in 1998 and by the time the My Conscience demo appeared line-up changes were routine for the band. In August, 2002 the band recorded Died Before Dawn which brought the band a contract with Xtreem Records in 2003. The band began recording its debut in February, 2004 and played the Xtreem Music Festival in Madrid, alongside Grave, Nuclear Assault and others, in October. The recordings had been delayed for five months, which meant that the debut was not issued until the end of 2004. Manuel Gestoso (Neter, etc.) took over the vocals in 2009. A demo, called Turn Your Back, appeared in 2011 and the band broke up.
Reviews ANVIL OF DOOM - DEATHILLUSION - XTREEM
If there is one word that applies best to the Spanish metal band, it would be 'diverse'. The Spanish sextet has different vocal and musical styles and despite the very weak act of featuring a keyboard player (sigh) within its line-up has an interesting album with Deathillusion. The vocals growl, shriek and sing, while the music goes from upbeat to mid-paced to brutal. A song like Millennium is both heavy and melodic while harbouring some excellent guitar lead work. Then a song called Dreams voyager has riffs that could have appeared on a glam act's - think LA Guns - album. In fact, some of the other names that cross one's mind listening to Deathillusion are Megadeth, Arch Enemy, Dark Tranquility, Iron Maiden, Faith No More and Slayer. Yes, there is some funny singing here and some keyboards, but the bulk of the material is enjoyable! - Ali "The Metallian"
