History & Biography
Atavista was a little-known and political UKHC band based in Whitstable, Kent, which released an album on Peaceville Records' subsidiary Deaf Records. The band had previously released two rare EPs one of which, from 1987, was also on Peaceville. There was a 1986 demo called From Within through the band's own imprint Reasonable Hate Tapes. This was recorded in a shed in a backyard. The group disbanded simultaneous to the release of its album after five years of existence. Jez and Jeremy had come from the punk band Death Rattle, which was active between 1981 and 1985.

John was killed in a motorcycle accident in 1999. Jeremy ended up in the Scottish crossover band At Their Mercy. The band Cries Of Agony had Patrick playing with Jez's younger brother Tim Upcroft. Patrick was a solo folk artist years later.

The word 'atavista' refers to an occurrence or circumstance that is due to habit and stasis rather than necessity or cause. Patrick edited a fanzine called Direct Action.
