History & Biography
Athanator hails from Medellín in Colombia and was formed in 1989 as a death metal band. The band issued the 1990 demo Gritos Del Ennom before issuing the Engendros De Muerte EP. The band would issue a further demo, called Involucion, before disbanding due to line-up problems. The Colombians had also gravitated towards thrash metal. The band regrouped in 1999 and issued the Raise The Death CD in 2000.A Slayer covers CD called Raise The Slaughter followed in 2002. A lot of live activity followed including an opening slot for Destruction. Eder Zapata and Jorge Mejía soon joined the band and an album called Earth Of Blood appeared in 2004.

Reviews

ATHANATOR - EARTH OF BLOOD - DIRRTY
Athanator hails from Colombia and independent of that fact has no reason to exist. The band plays a derivative style of thrash highly inspired by Kreator and Sacrifice. The group is powerless and useless in most departments. Tracks like Walk Down The Dark and Rage, for instance, are devoid of worth and should not be. This is thrash metal that mimics Mille and company a lot and often, but the riffs, vocals and drums really fail to make the cut. The drums, in particular, are assigned follower status and never break from shadowing the rest of the band as intrusively as possible. The drummer's inappropriate beating of the cymbals is downright embarrassing. The guitar solos are the best thing about Earth On Blood (ha?), but even these flare-ups are too dependent on Extreme Aggression era Kreator to be meaningful. Next! - Ali "The Metallian"
