History & Biography
Avatar was formed in Gothenburg in the summer of 2001 by drummer John Alfredsson and vocalist Christian Rimmi as Lost Soul. Guitarists Viktor Ekström and Daniel Johansson soon joined. Ekström soon left citing a dislike for heavy metal. Johannes actually left, but soon returned. Kim Egerbo was on guitar for 2003.

The band’s 2004 demo was called Personal Observations. The next one was called 4 Reasons To Die. The group began issuing full-lengths next. The band shot a video for Schlacht (German for ‘Battle’). The group signed a North American deal with eOne Music to begin 2012. The band's fourth full-length album, Black Waltz, included a limited edition EP that was released in Sweden in autumn of 2011. The album was to be made available on February 14th. The band lost Simon Andersson, who wanted to focus on his studies, and found Tim. Avatar would release a new album, Hail The Apocalypse, on May 16th, 2014 through eOne in USA. Tim Öhrström was on guitar. The band gradually turned mallcore-ish.

Avatar signed to Thirty Tigers and launched its own Black Waltz Records imprint in 2020. The group subsequently claimed it wants to save heavy metal with its next record.
