History & Biography
Here is a band that was formed by guitarist Narqath and drummer Kalma (a.k.a Vrtx or V-Khaoz) in Finland in 1995, yet played true black metal. Early on, the band was called Belfegor, but the monicker was changed because of the band Belphegor from Austria. After several demos in 1998, the band issued an EP through Aftermath Music called Harmagedon. Jani Loikas was in Nocturnal Winds and Narqath would send that band's demo to Aftermath Music facilitating a connection and a contract. The band would return to Aftermath several years later, but in the meantime would record and release several albums. Nocturnal Music issued a split release with Azaghal and Mustan Kuun Lapset in 2000. Another one, this time with Beheaded Lamb through Milenium (sic) Metal Music, appeared in 2001. Several more would follow on a regular basis as the band changed labels. Founding member and drummer V-Khaoz was kicked out of the band due to, "increasing conflicts both on an personal and musical level." The band opted to begin playing live in 2004. Drummer T.M. Blastbeast (Teemu Mutka) left after a short stay in 2006. Still, this was a change for a band that had relied on a drum machine since losing its drummer. The act's first live appearance was at the Under The Black Sun Festival in Germany in the summer of 2004. The act would also be booked for Under The Black Sun Festival 2019. The act announced it would tour Brazil with Infernal War 666 and Mørk VisdoM in March 2013. The group was booked for Messe Des Morts IV in Canada in 2015.

JL Nokturnal, who had become a sound engineer, left in 2015. Guitarist Ruho came and went between 2015 and 2017 and was heard only on a split with Oath. Singer and bassist Niflungr left in 2021. Still, he would rotate from project to project. Drummer Lima came in 2012. He would draw income from as many projects as possible. Singer Thirteen came in 2022. The group played at Nummirock in 2023. Azaghal, Happy Days and Empty toured Iberia in late 2023. An upcoming tour of Latin America was cancelled. The band was opening for Dodheimsgard and Beherit at Rites Of North in Finland to begin 2024.

The band members set a new bar in wife swapping and incestuous relationships each being in several other projects before and simultaneous to this project.

Azaghal is a dwarven king in Tolkien's realms.
