History & Biography Black Death was a Cleveland metal band with roots back in 1978. The band was billed as the first metal band with an all-black line-up. The group issued a 1982 demo, a 1983 demo and an album on Auburn Records, the sponsor of local bands like Aftershok and Destructor.
Not much is known about this band except that along with Speed Barrier they were considered metal pioneers for having black members. Drummer Phil Bullard died of colon cancer on February 6th, 2008 at age 59.
The band reappeared in 2014, but the name and trademark ownership was disputed. A version fought on with new members, while another billed itself as Black Death Resurrected. Midnight's 20th anniversary concert was in Cleveland, Ohio, USA in October 2023 and featured Black Death, Assault, Nunslaughter, Necroprophecy and Destructor. The band announced it would appear at Keep It True Rising IV in Würzburg, Germany in October 2024.
