History & Biography
Based in Los Angeles and grinding and grooving left, right and centre, narcogrind act Brujeria has been a project since 1989. Founded in Los Angeles and typically featuring new project members with each release, the band claims to be comprised of Mexican drug lords who stop at nothing to sing in Spanish, maim, kill and brutalize. The band has found controversy for its extreme sound, homicidal lyrics and targeting white people for assassination. The debut album’s title is translated as ‘killing white boys.’ Most members are Caucasian however. Founding members are singer Juan Brujo, Dino Cazares of Fear Factory as Asesino, bassist and drummer Fantasma and Billy Gould of Faith No More. A dozen project members have come and gone in the interim period. These include Napalm Death’s Jesse Pintado, Fear Factory’s Raymond Herrera, At The Gates’ Adrian Erlandsson and drummer Nick Barker (he is in every band).

¡Demoniaco! was the band’s first outing. The single was issued through the California-based Nemesis Records. Another single was issued through another punk label two years later. Alternative Tentacles issued the ¡Machetazos! single in 1992. The label belonged to Jello Biafra/ Hozicon Jr. Fantasma left the stool to focus on the bass in 1992. Roadrunner, which had signed Fear Factory, contracted the band and issued the debut full-length in 1993. The cover depicted a beheaded face. Roadrunner released a censored version as well. New member Pinche Peach was credited with samples. California-based punk label Koolarrow Records issued an EP called Marijuana in 1997. It also featured several live tracks. Several compilations and singles arrived in the next years, but with band members busy elsewhere Brujeria was largely dormant. The band, Arch Enemy and Living Corpse did play shows. A 2003/2004 tour of the USA and Mexico was called The Mexecutioner. The group also travelled to Argentina and Brazil. The band appeared at UK Deathfest 2010 with Immolation, Negură Bunget, Amputated, Abgott and others

Nuclear Blast Entertainment, run by Monte Connor of Roadrunner, issued a new album by the band in 2016. The label had signed the band in 2014. Pititis was on guitar. El Cynico was on bass. Hongo Jr. (a.k.a. Nick Barker) left the drum position in 2015, but returned in 2016. Anton Reisenegger of Pentagram called himself El Criminal and joined in 2016. Cattle Decapitation, Piñata Protest and Brujeria announced a USA tour for 2016. Brujeria was following up the Viva Presidente Trump! seven-inch of Record Store Day with a new single called Amaricon Czar. The band was hitting Europe with Venomous Concept and Aggression. Rainichi Kinen Ban Japan Edition 2020 compiled several singles. COVID-666 was a 2020 single that featured a cover of Cream’s Cocaine, now sung in Spanish. The band filmed a socially distanced music video for the track. Brujeria was touring the USA using the Raza Odiada West America Tour 2022 in April and May. Goatwhore and Unidad Trauma were opening. Napalm Death was touring using the Campaign For Musical Destruction monicker in the U.S.A. in the autumn of 2022. Brujeria, Frozen Soul, Cryptic Slaughter and MDC were openers in different cities. Brujeria and Art Of Shock were conducting the Matando Güeros – 30 Aniversário Tour in the USA in the winter of 2023. Brujeria released a full-length album, entitled Esto Es Brujeria, through Nuclear Blast Records in September 2023. Brujeria announced Esto Es Brujeria - European Tour 2024 for June.

Brujería is Spanish for ‘witchcraft.’ The members claim the pseudonyms are needed as they are wanted by the FBI. Logically, the members wear masks at shows.
