History & Biography Chinchilla's first official foray was the 1994 MCD Who Is Who? The demo CD featured Obermeier on vocals. Horrorscope was released by Virgin in Japan and Point Music in Germany.
Having changed singers, the band played several European tours and festivals and signed with Metal Blade. The band had a major line-up overhaul in 2002, coming back for Madtropolis with a new bassist, drummer and keyboardist. Fast Eddie Clarke guested on Madtropolis.
This furry band was formed in 1988. A demo called No Mercy was issued in 1990, but the line-up imploded and the band went into hiatus for three years. The band has played with the who's-who of the German scene including Scorpions and Running Wild. The band plays heavy metal. The group had a new album called The Prophecy in 2007. The band was also due to be touring Europe with Sinner and Vengeance when the tour was cancelled due to the recent injury of Sinner singer Mat.
Reviews CHINCHILLA - MADTROPOLIS - METAL BLADE
Chinchilla is a below-average band. They seem to have a few things to say lyrically, but the music is not what any listener would consider outstanding. The keyboard-encumbered format of these Germans is further worsened by a so-so production resulting in a stodgy album. The best melodies on the album, moreover, have previously been heard elsewhere. The main melody on When The Sand Darkens The Sun is close to Jacob's Dream's Funambulism for instance. Adding cynicism to the inferiority is a song called Heavy Metal. "For us it's the only real way to live and die," sings the band. One can not be sure how Chinchilla (a cousin of Gremlins?) proposes to do that with a full-time keyboardist in the band. My advice to the band's new line-up is to drop Artur Diessner from the fold, incorporate more guitars, get a better production next time and attempt to stand out from the crowd in this manner. After all, which band wants a reviewer to note that the best thing on their album is a guest solo by former Motorhead man Fast Eddie Clarke? - Ali "The Metallian"
