History & Biography Hard 'n' heavy band from Czech Republic, which had some rare early exposure in the West, Citron was founded in the eastern city of Ostrava in 1976. Petr Michalík was the de facto leader. The band issued multiple singles in the 1970s that veered rock and heavy rock before 1983's Tropic Of Cancer full-length. Plni Energie was also released as Full Of Energy as an English language version. The group was able to travel to Germany for live work in 1986. Radegast had its domestic release through Supraphon in 1987, but in a breakthrough for a Czech/eastern European band was issued by Germany's Zyx two years later as well. The band had again visited Germany and also played in Eastern Europe. Like its predecessors, this was an English language version of the original. Speaking of 'original,' Vypusťte Psy! featured two singers, František Michalík and Tibor Šándor. Aleš Hubáček sang on Sex Bomby, which was a forerunner of the fat is sexy movement. Guitarist Jindřich Kvita died in 1997, which put a brake on activities. Síla Návratů was a forerunner too. It was a self-cover version album of Radegast in 2001. The band went on hiatus.
Bigbítový Pánbů (Gods Of Rock) was a demo that was released in 2010. A returning Standa Hranický, who had sang on Full Of Energy, was the singer here. The man would die of cancer a mere three years later. The group toured domestically with Def Leppard in 2015. Ladislav Křížek returned to sing. Rebelie Rebelů was a full-length demo released in 2016. Ladislav Křížek fronted the group here. A two track demo was Valašský Věk in 2019. The band became silent with the advent of the pandemic.
Radim Pařízek died in 2021, which severed any ties the band had had to its early membership. Having said that even Radim was not an original member. Ladislav Křížek, who had returned to the fold, was the most tenured members then. Several members over the years have been Slovaks given how the country was Czechoslovakia during the act's first two decades.
