History & Biography When Swedish death metal band Withered decided to fold after losing its deal with Karmageddon Media the members regrouped as Closer with a new bassist in tow. The band had an album recorded and delivered to the Dutch label that went unreleased. The year was 2005. The band recorded a demo called Nothing Is Everything and obtained a deal with Pulverised Records. A three-song CD of the band’s demo called Darkness In Me was issued in late 2006.
Reviews CLOSER - DARKNESS IN ME - PULVERISER
Closer is a young band, but judging by the three songs (essentially the band’s demo re-released by Pulveriser Records) is already poised to match the big boys of Swedish death and thrash metal. There is a touch of hardcore in the band’s vocals which indicate a certain liking for The Haunted. Melberg’s voice is occasionally similar to Molberg (Klas) of Stockholm’s defunct Desultory. The music is a mix of At The Gates, older In Flames and Solar Dawn. It is both fast and aggressive, although Darkness In Me has quite a bit of melodic riffing. This song has the album’s best solo as well. Three songs are not enough to accurately judge a band by, but if the band’s material is as good as this Closer (a sales call?) is worth following. As for the band’s gigolo image... - Anna Tergel
