History & Biography
Death metal group Disma was founded by Bill Venner in the year 2005. The group released a demo called The Vault Of Membros in 2009. Disma had garnered a bassist in 2008. Daryl Kahan had joined in 2007. Craig Pillard joined in late 2008. The band and Finland-based Winterwolf shared a 7” in 2011. This was released by Doomentia Records. The track that Disma contributed was on the band’s full-length of 2011 as well. This was on the Profound Lore label. The band, however, was removed from Austin, Texas, USA’s Chaos In Tejas festival due to Craig Pillard’s declared racism.

Doomentia Records released another split with the band and another Finnish group in 2011. This new split was with Convulse. Disma and Convulse were joining together for a European tour in November 2013. It would culminate in France's Wolf Throne Festival. Convulse was presenting its new album Evil Prevails. Guitarist Daryl Kahan left in 2015. Rumour had it that he was reacting to the controversy around Craig Pillard’s right-wing views. Drummer Shawn Eldridge left in 2016. However, no one was going to miss them as they were in a baker’s dozen other projects. There was a 2017 single called The Graveless Remains. Pillard left the band at this junction in 2019 yet seems to have quietly slipped back into the act a year later. Oddly, while the band had announced his departure, there was no mention of his return on the Disma website. Shawn’s replacement Craig Smilowski left the drum position due to “personal issues” in 2020 and was replaced by Chris Demydenko. Yet another EP was 2022’s Earthendium, which was released by Necroharmonic Productions. Pillard had picked up the guitar as well.

Former Incantation singer Craig Pillard was the rare breed of modern Nazi who did not hide his dogma and was openly in the band Sturmführer under his civil name. That is until 2015 when the following statement was issued in Craig’s name: “"To whom it may concern, I just want to clear up a few things: I understand why people may be angry. I said (and believed in) some questionable things a long time ago but that is in my past, and I do not associate with any of it anymore. I'm a different person now and am in no way affiliated with those previous beliefs, and neither is Disma. Disma has absolutely nothing to do with politics nor is it a platform or vehicle to spread ideology or political ideas of any kind. I personally do not belong to any political groups or organizations and neither do my band mates (sic) in Disma.” The statement was issued in 2015 following an interview in which the man had openly brandished his far right credentials and jeopardised Disma’s tour plans and a European festival participation (which kicked the band off the bill). Moreover, the band’s above-quoted statement was erased from the group’s Facebook.
