History & Biography
Formed by Geary and Cherone in 1986 as a glam band in Boston, they signed with A&M and released a debut after recruiting Bettencourt. The debut sold 300,000 copies. The band's More Than Words slow song immediately climbed up the charts and Extreme became super stars. For this second album Extreme toured with ZZ Top. III Sides was in fact a three CD set which did better than expected. Still the band's fourth album - featuring Mangini - went nowhere and the band moved on as Cherone couldn't refuse an offer to join his heroes Van Halen. The Dream had a self-titled album in 1995 and featured Geary and Cherone.

The group reunited in 2004 and played in the USA and Japan. A reunited Extreme was following up its American shows with a new album in the spring of 2008. Kevin Figueiredo was on drums. The reunited band named its next album, Saudades De Rock. It was the debut of drummer Kevin Figueiredo in Extreme. The group was touring North America. Extreme guitarist Nuno Bettencourt was hired by Rihanna to be her 2010 world tour lead guitarist. Bettencourt used adjectives like “heavy,” or “funky” and “rocks” to describe his employer. Extreme announced the release of a new DVD and CD, entitled Take Us Alive, for April of 2010. The recording was shot on August 8th, 2009 at the House of Blues in Boston.

Frontiers Records released Hurtsmile's self-titled debut album on January 21st, 2011. Hurtsmile was a new band featuring singer Gary Cherone who has teamed up with his brother Mark. Extreme's Pornograffitti Live 25: Metal Meltdown DVD was released on October 28 2016.

Extreme had to cancel its appearance at the M3 Rock Festival due to several COVID-19 infections within the ranks of the members and its crew in 2022. M3 Rock Festival was to take place in Columbia, Maryland, USA on May 6 and May 7, 2023. Bands appearing included Loudness, Extreme, Lita Ford, Slaughter, L.A. Guns and Kix. The Joe Perry Project, with singer Gary Cherone on vocals, was playing six concerts in the USA in April 2023. Six came out that summer. There was a single called Rise off its new album. The band was forced to cancel its appearance at the M3 Rock Festival after guitarist Nuno Bettencourt injured his leg while taking part in the Rockers Versus Average Joes basketball game aboard the Monsters Of Rock cruise on Tuesday, May 2nd. Extreme was touring using the Thicker Than Blood Tour monicker for the USA, Australia and Japan that summer and going to Europe in the autumn. The act and earMUSIC launched a marketing plan to promote the band’s Six album. They were asking everyone to cover the band’s new single, which was entitled Rise, in order to “keep rock and roll alive.” The band acted as the opener for Godsmack for four concerts. The band was booked for Monsters Of Rock Cruise in 2024. Living Color joined Extreme on September 2024 dates of the Thicker Than Blood Tour. in Canada and the USA.
