History
Frightmare came together in 2002 when Maniac Neil asked several fellow slashers and thugs to join him in a band practicing in the seedier side of Portland, Oregon. The new band was a continuation of his one-man project, Maniac killer. The idea was to join horror films with authentic death metal a la Carcass, Necrophagia and Repulsion. The band signed to Razorback Records - utilizing the Lord Gore connections - and issued an album. The band also issued split singles with Embalming Theater and Birdflesh. Frightmare (which was named by Razorback Records’ proprietor) went on a two-year hiatus before returning for another recording. The band lost its bassist and drummer following the recording.

Reviews

FRIGHTMARE - BRINGING BACK THE BLOODSHED - RAZORBACK
A sign of life from Razorback and a sign of death from Frightmare... a sign of death, but assuredly not death metal. The Oregon slashers deliberately skip over death metal delivering old and classic horror-influenced songs in the thrash/grindcore style. The band stays away from Cannibal Corpse or Suffocation and instead belts out tunes with names like Friday The 13th Part 2, By Sword, By Pick, By Axe, Bye Bye and The Blood Runs In Rivers in chunks. The dual-vocals follow the lead of Carcass, but the music is more Repulsion and Impetigo than anything more modern. The aforementioned By Sword, By Pick, By Axe, Bye Bye even goes as far as lifts the main riff from Megadeth’s Peace Sells instant classic. The album ends with a cover of Leatherface by Lääz Rockit, but not before showing off encyclopaedic knowledge of horror, alliteration, lead guitar, and copious amounts of lyrics. - Ali “The Metallian”
