History & Biography
Grimfist was formed in 2001 and signed to Candlelight Records. Immortal's bassist Iscariah left that band in 2002 to concentrate on Grimfist - also featuring Pain and Immortal drummer Horg. In a statement the man said, “I have basically followed my instincts and my gut feeling and came to the conclusion that I am leaving Immortal...I am not retiring. I just want to do what feels right for ME. At this point I am still involved in several other bands.” Immortal had already recruited a new bassist. The debut was produced by Peter Tägtgren and went on to sell well. Horgh would work with Peter in Pain and eventually join him full-time in Hypocrisy. He was initially intent on maintaining his dual role, but soon left Grimfist. The band recruited American drummer Dustin Pearl while occasionally using Aeternus' Ares on session bass. Ten Steps To Hell was issued in the autumn of 2005. Recorded at Subsonic Society Studios (Dismember, Susperia) and mixed at Studio Fredman (In Flames, The Haunted), the album featured drummer Christian Svendsen of Tsjuder fame. In 2005 Frediablo quit all his projects insisting he will stay with Grimfist. He left Grimfist in 2006. After leaving the band to get away from it all singer Frediablo came back in 2008. The band was working on an album, tentatively titled A New Breed Of Brutality. The group disbanded in 2008 and returned in 2014. Secthdamon was on bass. Yngve Christiansen was on vocals. The band was booked for Blastfest 2015, which it dropped out of because of a reported illness, otherwise the so-called reunion was as pertinent, relevant and active as a bag of chips, which is full of air anyway.

Reviews

GRIMFIST - 10 STEPS TO HELL - CANDLELIGHT
Grimfist is an extreme and fierce band and the bravely-named 10 Steps To Hell - the ten songs of course - is full of fast and heavy riffs and drum assaults that will crush most. Having said that, the band is by no means all vicious and brutal all the time. Clean vocals, melodies and slower sections also find a home with Grimfist. The vocals are screams from hell and growls from the abyss mostly, and the music is a mixture of late Satyricon, Hypocrisy and Defleshed. The band apparently mixes speeds on purpose. The album's highlight is probably the seven-minute long Tools Of Trade which, incidentally, is not a Carcass song. Fans of death and thrash with similarities to the aforementioned bands will find plenty of worthwhile music here. - Ali "The Metallian"
