Lost Eden is Japan’s answer to metalcore et al. The band was formed in 2000 and issued a demo called Sewn Mouth Forest in 2003. A year earlier, the band had appeared on the Surplus Suppression 3 sampler. Candlelight Records issued a debut full-length in 2007. An early drummer was simply called Chang. He would switch to guitars before departing.
LOST EDEN - CYCLE REPEATS - CANDLELIGHT
Unbelievable that the band would christen its debut album, Cycle Repeats. Lost Eden is a young Japanese band with a debut album here, but what the band has packaged and shipped here across the ocean is the exact same thing as 1,001 other bands have already unleashed upon the unsuspecting masses. We are all drowning in the cesspool that is generic Soilwork/As I Lay Dying so on and so forth riffs, screams, synthesizers and clean chants. Aaaaaaaarrrggghhh...
For a young band to start so badly and so derivatively is hardly promising. For hell’s sake even the cover colour and design scheme is a Soilwork rip-off. Time and time again one is bemused how a combination of extreme guitars, throaty yells (and Pantera-like howls) and speedy parts can lead to such dismal and, quite frankly, boring results. Lost Eden has the right name and the band’s drummer Mako the most honest attitude (along with the album’s title) with his monotonous and straightforward beats. The guy’s drumming symbolizes Lost Eden’s musical approach. You have heard it before over and over and over and over again and it was hardly any good the first time around. - Ali “The Metallian”
