History & Biography

One of two UK-based NWOBHM bands with this monicker, this marquis veered softer and AOR alongside hard and heavy music. The band was called Mixdix before acquiring the new monicker in 1979. The Popes, who had a band called Cathedral, were the founders. Demo 1981 addressed all sorts of areas and settings. The band issued a single for the demo song Somewhere Up In The Mountains - originally a Mixdix track - backed with Black Angel in 1981. The group disbanded in 1982. Somewhere Up In The Mountains was a 2012 compilation. Original guitarist Kevin Pope, the brother of Gary, died in 2018.

Kevin’s death had prompted the members to regroup for a tribute concert. No different than other acts, the band announced a return in 2019. It was to play Keep It True 2021. COVID-19 had other plans and the band appeared at the 2023 edition. Golden Core issued Chapter II simultaneously. Aside from three brothers, Giles Holland was in the line-up and on second guitar and keyboards. He had met Gary in Time Is Tight, a blues act. The band played the Abyss festival in Sweden in November and in London as opener for Forged In Black in late 2022. The act was booked for the Sorceress Of Sin festival in September 2023.
