History & Biography Mass Psychosis was formed in New Jersey in 1988. The group came to the underground’s attention through the split 7” EP with Extreminance from Maryland. This single was out in 1993 through Shredomatic. A CD called Face showed up in 1995, which was a compilation of material from the Psychosis and Mass Psychosis demos. Face was recorded at Trax East Studio in New Jersey in 1991. My Private Hell was recorded at the same time, but revocalized in 1992. Goremachine stemmed from 1993 and 1994. Andy Siry promoted Mass Psychosis in Europe. Necroporno was issued in two editions. The band opened for the likes of Vital Remains and Morbid Angel in this period. Matt Kerwin had died by this time. The band gave up when Zebro left and asked the band take its equipment out of his house.
The band reformed in 2005 with Doug Grandon, original singer Tom May and original bassist John Zebro together with drummer Vic Belarista, a veteran of the Necroporno album sessions. John soon disappeared and was replaced by Andy Scalera.
Reviews MASS PSYCHOSIS - FACES - KOCH INTERNATIONAL
Long-time death metallers are back following a period of silence via their first disc on the young Koch International label. Formerly known as simply Psychosis, the band which was forced to change its name due to sharing it with others has compiled all its material such as its demo and Shredomatic Records’ seven-inch and added a previously unreleased song (I Own Your Soul) and cleared the slate before entering the studio this time to record an album of new material entitled Necroporno for the same label. Material-wise the Americans pump out killer music. Specializing in technically oriented death metal the group remains by-and-large original even if for comparison’s sake one can imagine a more straightforward Oppressor musically, while the playful vocals have a shrieking The Accüsed aura to them. But when all is said the best way to describe this material is... metal freaks should get Faces and bang their heads! - Ali “The Metallian”
