History & Biography Mons Veneris is a black metal band from Torres Novas in Portugal, which was formed in 2003. The band was in tune with the trends and did not disclose its membership, but operated mostly as a solo act. The band also belonged to something called the Black Circle, together with the bands Vetala, Irae, Decrepitude and Rainha Cólera, but this dissipated. The act has delivered dozens of demos, split releases, compilations and full-length albums. The material has ranged from sub-Dark Throne style black metal to ambient music.The output has also included non-metal instrumentation like violin and cello to border on Classical music.
The band was first heard through the ...Das Catacumbas demo of 2004. The early material was synthesiser-oriented. The man tipped his hands by releasing a tape, entitled Evil Genius - A Tribute To Abruptum, in a supposed edition of 666 through Winterreich Productions in 2006. The first full-length album was Vicit Sathanas Pater... Eum Sequamur of 2008.The 2017 album was almost 30 minutes long and contained two untitled tracks. The 2020 full-length also contained two untitled tracks, but these were considerably longer and instrumental. Multiple other releases or songs went untitled. The man has gravitated more towards full-lengths in recent years. Portugal-based Mons Veneris had a new album, entitled Ascent Into Draconian Abyss, which was released through Signal Rex on May 1st 2024.
Mons Veneris is Latin for ‘Mountain Of Veneration.’
