History & Biography As the name suggests Mourning is a death/doom metal band. The band hailed from Gouda known for its namesake cheese. The band was formed in 1989 and in 1991 issued a demo with a major inverted cross on the cover. In 1992, Belgium’s Midian Creations released a split for the band with countrymen Eternal Solstice (featuring former Mourning drummer Mischa Hak). The year after the Dutch Foundation 2000 issued the band’s sole album. It was recorded at Beaufort Studio. Showing its true deathly credentials the album featured a track called Get AIDS And Die. Poland’s Loud Out Records issued the album on cassette. Phil Nugteren had joined the band on second guitar as well. The band split up and Van Der Ree joined Eternal Solstice.
The members regrouped in Rouwen, which means Mourning in Dutch, in 1997.
