History & Biography

There are as many Nemesis’ running around the globe as there as ‘Dark’ this and ‘Dark’ that, Massacres and Killers. This particular one is noteworthy for being the early incarnation of the fathers of epic doom metal, Candlemass. Founder Edling also handed the vocals. An early drummer was Anders Waltersson.

Congruously then the band was threatened by legal action by a Swedish business called Nemesis and had to come up with a new monicker. Notwithstanding that and referring back to the same paragraph there was another Sweden-based Nemesis operating at the same time.

The band was founded in 1982 and operated under this monicker for two years. The 1984 demo was called Tales Of Creation. Sweden-based Fingerprint Records issued an EP, called The Day Of Retribution, which had duly arrived and the name was changed.

Most of the included songs and riffs were later reborn under the Candlemass name. Active Records of UK and Metal Blade would later re-issue the sole EP.
