History & Biography
Ningen-Isu or ‘the human chair’ has been around delivering hard rock since 1987. Based in Aomori in Northern Japan, the band’s monicker, like much of its lyrics, was influenced by the Meiji era (late 19th and early 20th century Japan) and Japanese culture. Ningen-Isu’s line-up has been relatively stable given how long it has been around. The two main members were high school friends. The band issued its debut in 1989. It was right after their surprise appearance at a TBS TV music contest. 疾風怒濤 〜人間椅子ライブ！ライブ！！from 2010 came with a bonus DVD. The band played at the Ozzfest 2013 and even played several European shows in 2020. Japan-based Ningen-Isu had an album called 苦楽 (Kuraku or ‘pain') through Tokuma Japan Communications in July 2021. 色即是空 of 2023 was supported through a video for the song さらば世界.

They band’s monicker was inspired by a 1924 short story of the same name written by Edogawa Rampo. The story was also made into a film.
