History & Biography
The glam/shred band came onto the scene in 1988 with Demo 1988 as a follow-up to Gillette’s solo record. Saint James of Jim Gillette band was the early drummer. The band was signed by Rampage/Rhino Records and issued ‘Out Fucking Rageous.’ The group was mostly known for Angelo’s shredding guitars and the members making Poison looking shorthaired. At one point Angelo claimed Eddie Van Halen was studying one of his techniques. K. C. Comet replaced Rock for the ensuing tour. A demo was issued in 1990 and a second record with the label was approved, namely II - H.W.D.W.S. This album featured Ralph Carter on bass and Johnny Thunder on drums.

Lita Ford (formerly with members of The Who, Ramones, WASP, Black Sabbath, Mötley Crüe, David Lee Roth, etc.) had married Nitro’s Jim Gillette in 1994 and exited the professional stage. Gillette and Ford would move to the Caribbean and develop property. Wicked Wonderland, Lita Ford’s first album in 14 years, was being issued in autumn 2009 through her own JLRG Entertainment label. The album was co-produced by her husband Jim Gillette. The two were soon divorced and feuding. Gillette had become a showman in the MMA rink.

A compilation of unreleased music called Gunnin' for Glory was issued by Angelo in 1998. The band inevitably reformed in 2016. Lamb Of God’s Chris Adler drummed for the singer and guitarist duo. The band even announced a tour of India for the summer of 2017. A song called It Won’t Die was issued and the band played several concerts. The band’s new style was deathcore. A record was promised. Instead and following much criticism regarding its new music Nitro broke up in May of 2019. Several songs the band had composed in the last four years were to be used on a solo record by guitarist Michael Angelo Batio. Manowar recruited Michael Angelo Batio to replace Evandro "EV" Martel who had departed for personal reasons in 2022. The new man would take part in the 2023 Crushing The Enemies Of Metal tour, which featured music from the band’s earlier albums. Manowar had announced its farewell tour in 2016.
