History & Biography

This Germany-based ambient and black metal band was founded in 1995 as the follow-up to Desîhra, which was founded in the summer of 1993. Founding members were Marcel, who sang, played guitar and keyboards, and keyboardist Benedikt. The latter man left after only one year. Former former Desîhra guitarist and bassist S. Magic M. and drummer Limbach joined. Limbach proved unsuitable for the group's style and was replaced by Matthias Rodig also of Agathodaimon. Marcel was a keyboardist in Agathodaimon during this period. The band's debut Lethe - Gottverreckte Finsternis was recorded twice after the band found the first recording subpar. Line-up changes ensued.

The act signed with Nuclear Blast following its ...Doch Lächeln Die Blutleeren Lippen/Begräbnisvermählung demo of 1998. The membership, which has been linked to Agathodaimon, has been in flux and each member typically handles more than one duty. The group ceased activity in 2006, citing burn-out, financial difficulties and a lack of motivation, yet became the alternative rock band Dinner Auf Uranos in 2008. Nevertheless, finding little success reverted to the old monicker three years later.

Thanks to Nuclear Blast and its Grind Syndicate sub-label, Supreme Chaos and MDD this band may be the one with the most albums of which no one has heard. Alternatively, it may be all the alternative music leanings. F51.4 was the debut album for Agrypnie and issued in June 2006. The lyrics were courtesy of Marcel Vampellans Traumschänder. The group announced its return in 2011. The band returned to Supreme Chaos, which was also the former label of singer Torsten's Agrypnie, for 2020's Irrlicht (Es schlägt Dem Mond Ein Kaltes Herz). Karwoche (Die Sonne Der Toten Pulsiert) followed. Drummer Matze left in 2021. He had been with the act for almost 25 years.
