History & Biography
Members come and members go and only Varggoth is constant. Everyone else is a tourist in this act. The band was founded three years earlier under different monickers, but was established with its current monicker in 1994. The group added a folk twist to its heavy sounds and launched into political and racial themes. Early demos were Twilightfall, Black Clouds Over Slavonic Lands and Lunar Poetry. The last title was re-issued by The End Records on CD in 2001. The band and The End reached the end following business clashes. Other reports had it that The End Records had dropped Nokturnal Mortem in a response to the band's increasingly overt Nazi views. The group participated in a split release with Ukraine-based Lucifugum in 1997. That year also presented an EP, called Return Of The Vampire Lord, through MetalAgen. An EP of odds and ends was called Marble Moon.

Early guitarist Karpath was fired in 1996. The band’s debut arrived in 1997. It was called Goat Horns. The band’s third album from 1999 was called ‘No Christ.’ Original drummer Munruthel left briefly in 2000, returned and definitively left in 2003. Vrolok switched from guitar to bass. Original bassist Xaarquath left in 2002. Beginning with 2005’s Weltanschauung the band switched to the racist No Colours label and picked a German title. Most lyrics and titles have always been Russian. There was a Slavic version of the same album. The band appeared at the fascist-oriented Asgardsrei festival in December of 2016. The group played at Kolovorot Nove Kolo festival. The Keyboardist Surm joined in 2018. Оберіг - Live At Ragnard Reborn Fest was recorded in 2018.

Varggoth runs Oriana Music. Given the folk elements the band insists on using a variety of folk music instruments. Band leader Gapon also handled the bass guitar upon group formation. Early logos featured swastikas.

Reviews

NOKTURNAL MORTUM - LUNAR POETRY - THE END
I am not certain to which moon Nokturnal Mortum sings, but it's certain that the only keyboards on sale there are the cheap, toy store variety that are sold to little boys who harbour illusions of symphonic grandeur - and lack the balls to actually deliver metal. This rerelease of an original cassette, features the standard vocals sung over 2 kilos of whispers, three kilos of keyboards and a ton of posing. To nail the coffin firmly shut, included is the zillionth cover version this side of the moon. This time one from the original masters of poseur-o-rama: Celtic Dross - he of the Tiffany and Michael Jackson T-shirt variety. This is not rocking, it's rocking chair. - Ali "The Metallian"
