History & Biography
North is an underground black metal band based in Poland since 1992. The band has called itself “pagan” and “war” metal previously. The early demo was called Entering The Dark Kingdom and issued in 1993. It was taped in the band’s rehearsal room. As My Kingdom Rises followed late in the same year. Vermighor left, but would return for a short stay three years later. Poland’s own Astral Wings Records picked the band up for its debut record. Thorns On The Black Rose was recorded in 1994 and released in 1995. Past a couple of split releases, album number two came in 1998. Vermighor was on second guitar now. Korona was the independent release in 2002. An album arrived only in 2006. Titles and lyrics were in Polish here. Marth was on guitar while Helldriver was on drums. Marcin was on guitar for Czekając Na Sztorm.

Greg, also of Croque-Mort like Helldriver, became the bassist in 2019. Poland-based North was back and announced an EP called We Are, We Remain…through Pagan Records in 2024. There was new music, a self-cover version and a cover version of a Bathory song.

The members constituted several side-projects like My Infinite Kingdom or Neasit in the mid-1990s. The act would also appear on split releases with bands like Grom and Neasit. The band’s base is Toruń, a UNESCO World Heritage Site in northern Poland. North has been praised by Darken of Nazi band Graveland (see Ichorzine in 1997). Band mainstay Sirkis has contributed artwork and logos to NSBM bands like the aforementioned Graveland or Golfaron or Gontyna Kry. North’s Sirkis was interviewed in Polish Nazi fanzine Antychryst in the late 1990s. In the same issue, Gontyna Kry praised North as one of the bands worth highlighting.
