History

Origin, one of the original techno death metal bands, was founded in Kansas in 1997. Paul was busy with his music for years in advance. James Lee was his co-founder. A Coming Into Existence was the 1998 demo before the debut album of 2000. Death Across America was the monicker for a tour, which included Nile, Cryptopsy, Oppressor and Gorguts in 1998. The band played at November To Dismember in 1999. Many more festivals and tours would follow. James King and Clint Appelhanz left in 2006. Longstreth left in 2003 and returned in 2006. The group hit Europe with Misery Index and Necrophagist in 2007. Mica Meneke was the replacement for Lee, but lasted only three months due to personal problems. Lee and Ryan shared vocals next. The band switched to Nuclear Blast for Entity. That did not last. Abiogenesis – A Coming Into Existence comprised of pre-Origin material. Western Canada’s Armstrong Metal Fest’s 11th annual would take place on July 12th and 13th 2019 at the Hassen Arena in Armstrong, British Colombia. Bands playing included Betraying The Martyrs, Wake, Entheos, Centuries Of Decay and Origin among others.

Reviews

ORIGIN - ECHOES OF DECIMATION - RELAPSE
Origin is back with its follow-up to 2002's Informis Infinitas Inhumanitas album and boy does this thing discharge brutal death metal energy. The obvious departure point for these guys is Cannibal Corpse, but Origin has that much more speed and that much more technicality. In fact, adding to its cannibal stew the band throws in complicated breaks and noisy notes just to throw off the audience. It is no wonder that Cannibal Corpse borrowed guitarist Jeremy Turner from this bunch, for as the remaining members demonstrate this band knows how to play. The vocal styles are bestial and the sound sharp. The sole exception is the drum sound which is muffled and jumbled on most songs which is a pity. Nevertheless, stylistically this is controlled chaos. - Ali "The Metallian"
