History & Biography
Painkiller first appeared in 1991. Metal fans should approach this avantgarde, free form, jazzy, grindcore act with caution. Zorn formed Painkiller with Bill Laswell on bass and Mick Harris on drums. Jon Zorn is a saxophone player and composer. Bill Laswell is an experimental bassist. Mick Harris came from Napalm Death and Defecation, but drifted into free form music and electronic music. The drummer left in 1995. Rituals: Live In Japan was recorded in Tokyo in 1991. Execution Ground was more ambient than its predecessors. The band went away, but Painkiller climbed the stage for a one-off concert with the original line-up of Zorn, Laswell, and Harris again. Mike Patton of Faith No More joined them. This was in Paris, France in 2008.
