History & Biography
Karlsruhe in southwestern Germany is not exactly a hard rock mecca, but that is where Pink Cream 69 was founded in 1987. The hard rock band has been inextricably linked to Helloween ever since and issued albums regularly. American Dennis Ward, whose father was a soldier stationed in Heidelberg, joined in 1988. The band obtained a deal with Epic records after winning a Metal Hammer newcomer competition and issued its self-titled debut in 1989. One Step Into Paradise was the single. Little Angels opened for the band. The group toured with White Lion. The band toured with Liar, UDO and Chroming Rose. One Size Fits All followed two years later. Per consensus it was not as strong as its predecessor. The line-up had remained the same. The band toured Europe and Japan including the UK with the band Europe. Size It Up was a video of a Japanese concert. This video would years later get the DVD treatment as a bonus on The Past & The Present. An unknown British singer called David Readman became the frontman in time for Change. He would become a permanent fixture after having sent a tape of his to the German-based group. Andi Deris had decamped to Helloween, which several years before had issued an album called Pink Bubbles Go Ape. The rest of PC69 was unimpressed. The band had hired microphone-for-hire Doogie White, but that man had quickly moved to Rainbow. To get back at him, the members helped former rainbow singer Joe Lynn Turner with his Sunstorm project. Change featured grunge influences. The band had to switch to High Gain Records for Food For Thought. The Likes of Thunderhead, Kirk and Edenbridge tour with and open for the band. Pink Cream 69 also played at Wacken. The band travelled to South America and had a cameo on television. The group played at Bang Your Head festival in 2003. The band and Axxis toured Germany in early 2004. Thunderdome featured a cover of The Knack’s My Sharona. The Past & Present DVD of 2009 was taped live at the band’s twentieth anniversary show in January 2009 and at Das Fest festival in July. Headstrong came with a bonus live CD recorded in 2013. Readman also joined Tank in 2017. Dennis Ward, who in the interim had become a well-known producer, left in 2019. He had not joined the band on stage most recently and claimed Discomfort in the live arena. Reitenauer left after 13 years in 2020. Bassist Roman Beselt was a live guest before the pandemic killed live activity. He replaced Ward.

Kosta managed Helloween. The band is sometimes referred to as the Pinkies. Alfred has been afflicted with Focal Dystonia in his left hand, which is an involuntary spasm.
