History & Biography
Power metal band Purgatory was active between 1984 and 1990 initially and, aside from a quick appearance in 1991, returned in 2003 and 2018 briefly.

Jeff Hatrix and Easterly who had played together previously in NI4NI colluded with Greg Perry and Mark Alexander to form the band. Guitarist Mike Tucker of Stryker was in and out in 1984. He died in 2014. Two demos were issued, both self-titled in 1985, and Randy Gonce joined. However, the band was guitar-less by the time the album was issued. Dave Felton was on guitar for a period. Tony Ross replaced him and was with the band between 1987 and 1990. Felton would appear in Mushroomhead years later. Hatrix was gone before the Dr. Pain demo, which was 1989, himself. Singer Andy Boyer was heard on Dr. Pain. Purgatory went into purgatory in 1990 and the members ended up in acts like Hatrix, Mystik and Victor Fist. Hatrix joined Mushroomhead to core up the mall yo.

These other acts were hardly successfully so the band and its two singers played a reunion show in 1991. The next show was the second BW&BK Six Pack Weekend in Cleveland in 2004. The members had reunited in 2003.

Easterly’s son, Kenny Easterly Jr., began drumming for the band around 2018. Guitarist Tommy Church, formerly of Mushroomhead, joined the band for a year in 2018.
