Reviews

REFLECTION - WHEN SHADOWS FALL - CRUZ DEL SUR
It took several listens to realize it, but what this band is attempting a Greek version of Candlemass or Solitude Aeternus’ music. Upon reflection, it should have been easy to notice, but perhaps the wholly awful music and vocals got in the way of obvious thinking. Reflection is a tired and desultory band that sounds grounded even before any type of actual success. The plodding compositions are especially bad because the band’s pompous aura is marred by a mid-pace dullness that is partly a by-product of music that sounds earnestly like torture. The instruments sound tormented and squeezed as if begging to be set free from such monotony. The vocalist yawns in lieu of singing. For, what is supposedly, a metal band there is little excitement or action. The band realizing the same does what every Angelos-come-lately does, it brings in the keyboards to fill the gaps and holes. The wimpy keyboards then add to the weakness of it all and coupled with the operatic female vocals lend the whole thing the sordid atmosphere of a failed human sociology experiment riddled with clichés. - Ali “The Metallian”
