SACRILEGE - THE FIFTH SEASON - BLACK SUN
The Fifth Season, the second full-length by Sweden's deathsters Sacrilege, begins exactly where its debut of 1996 left off. Even if the vocal duties have in the meanwhile been passed on to drummer Daniel Svensson the band is treading the same raging waters as that disc here. Propelled forth by waves of intertwined melody and aggression, the album opener Moonlight is specially remarkable in its smooth metal composition. Despite an increasing depth in melody with the album's progression, the album remains consistent in delivering quality Gothenburg-style metal. The quartet does sink into a couple of Metallica-esque acoustic pieces reminiscent of Slaughter Of The Soul, yet proves that along with Crown Of Thorns, Centinex and others it is name to watch for. - Ali "The Metallian"
