SCEPTIC - UNBELIEVER'S SCRIPT - CANDLELIGHT
Sceptic is a sure bet for fans of Death. Lead by the guitar of Jacek 'Chuck' Hiro (also of Dies Irae) and the vocals of Michal 'Chuck' Skotniczny, the Polish band delivers a solid and powerful album which is strongly inspired by Death in addition to Megadeth and Testimony-era Pestilence. The material is tight, the riffs top-notch and the production effective. The band is not the most original on the planet obviously, but when the material is this good hardly anyone is going to argue with the end-result. Songs like Controlled By Mind, Soul Controllers and Spiritually Tormented (which themselves hint at Death) demonstrate that Sceptic is mature and ready for the prime time. The only exception is the album's closer Waves Of Destruction which is little more than a collection of sounds with whispered vocals and philosophical texts. Ignoring this song, and how the instrumental Voices From The Past has a little snip of vocals on it, Unbeliever's Script will turn a metal listener into a believer after just one listen. - Ali "The Metallian"
