SLAVE TO THE SYSTEM - Same - SPITFIRE
Slave To The System is the new band of former Queensrÿche drummer Scott Rockenfield and guitarist Kelly Gray. Also part of the line-up are two Brother Cane members. The band has several hard rock songs and turns aggressive on several songs, but the bulk of the material is straightforward rock music with an above average number of slow songs interspersed throughout the 12-track EP. Songs like Stigmata, Disinfected and Cruze Out Of Control are respectably hard. Then along comes a song like Live This Life, which could be a REM tune plain and simple. Slave To The System mixes that sound with Seattle grunge influences. Gone Today is another song squarely aimed at FM airplay with its “na na na na na” refrain.
Presenting Slave To The System on Metallian is a stretch frankly. Similarly a stretch is the biography’s contention that entire album was written and recorded in two weeks. Assertions of honesty of purpose in composing songs are one thing; similar claims for a two-week start to finish time frame for this disc are another. - Ali “The Metallian”
