STEPHEN PEARCY - FUELER - PERRIS
Lest you think that because Fueler is the new album of former Ratt singer Stephen Pearcy on the Perris label it is going to rock like it’s 1985, then you are in for a shock. Stephen is wearing a Ratt T-shirt on the cover, but musically this is as far away from glam and hard rock as rock music gets. When the album begins and songs like Overdrive and Kill Kitty kick in the music sounds like Grand Funk-gone-atomic, but as the songs come and go Fueler sounds more and more like Nine Inch Nails, Godsmack (the band not the song) and other modern rock bands. There is some Back Sabbath here certainly, but Stephen is after the current crop of MTV kids, not the former crop like yours truly. OK, let’s admit it, this girl will take Out Of The Cellar or Detonator over the newer groove any day, but tracks like Spy Vs. Spy or Sinomatic are disposable and repetitious. Don Dokken claims to have moved on from the '80s, but Stephen Pearcy has actually completed the move. I rather be listening to Don right now. All the same, this is the European version and features four bonus cuts. - Sheila Wes Det
