STRATUZ - SPIRIT SEDUCTION - LSP
Similar to Peru's Mortem who have been active since the mid-80's, Venezuela's Stratuz has been around since 1987 displaying their wares not only to their native country, but also in the Benelux and Germany. While the sound is adequate and the band enjoys a certain tight musicianship that can only be the result of years of practice, Stratuz fails to impress. Lacking any type of focus, the CD kicks off with a South American jungle beat that goes on a little longer than necessary. The band then proceeds to, in the course of tracks like Swift Death, The Last Angel, Sleeping Sins, etc., tackle Metallica, Cannibal Corpse, goth and classical music one at a time resulting in an uneven experience. The band seems unsure of its direction or perhaps is intentionally ensuring that it does not get pigeonholed. Whatever the case, the band will fail to appeal to any genre's fan and might only find a listener in the fan of all things unpop. This one's for you! - Ali "The Metallian"
