Reviews THE EVERSCATHED - RAZORS OF UNREST - OPEN GRAVE
There is a moment right at the beginning of Razors Of Unrest when one believes the band will sound like Cryptopsy. Instead, the Chicago-based death metal band, formed as a follow-up to Enmortem, takes on a more 'old-school' approach and even incorporates thrash and heavy metal style influences. That should not come as a surprise. Check out the band’s logo. Hallows Eve or Nasty Savage anyone? The group is extreme and probably into Obituary, although things are not quite that brutal. There are loads of slow parts and the band can go on without vocals for a fair bit. That is where things begin to drag and The Everscathed could have benefited from some editing. The drums too are rattly and over-use the toms in my opinion. Still, the loud bass guitar presence, the good heavy riffs and uncompromising attitude battle the aforementioned, as well as a non-descript cover picture and yet another cover version. - Anna Tergel
