THE MIGHTY NIMBUS - same - CANDLELIGHT
It is not a mystery what a recording line-up featuring members of Alabama Thunderpussy and Sixty Watt Shaman is going to sound like and, in this case, it is exactly what one would imagine. It is heavy, it is hard, it is packed with distortion and it moves like a Nimbus sure of its power, but in no hurry whatsoever. The vocals are damned to hell and the guitars pierce like Saint Vitus is playing them. The band's line-up has changed since this recording - ostensibly done in one day - but fans of the aforementioned three bands and Soundgarden are in for a treat. It is hardly original and has next to no 'eureka' moment, but it is consistent with the sub-genre's checklist. Fenrir is a soothing mid-album instrumental, Sacrament Of The Sick is one coherent jam session and the cover version of Saint Vitus' Born Too Late is simply redundant. - Ali "The Metallian"
