THE ORDER - SON OF ARMAGEDDON - DOCKYARD 1
Never mind the generic name! The Order is a Swiss band formed by Gurd’s guitarist Spring in order to play hard rock and heavy metal or as the group puts it, ”neither expect thrash metal nor mellow alternative rock.” That is more than great, except how is the music? That is more than great too. The Order is everything one can ask for from a modern European heavy metal band (well, a little more long hair around the shoulders would be just fab) and more. Spring has recruited Gurd’s former bassist Andrej, drummer Tschibu and a smoking singer called Gianni who sounds somewhere in-between Bon Scott, Dave Meniketti and Soundgarden’s Chris Cornell. Son Of Armageddon rocks big time on song after song. Sweet Stranger has driving vocals and some of the fattest chords this side of Guns N Roses, Sons Of Armageddon (plural of the album’s title - not my typo) is just heavy and Madmen With Loaded Guns is exemplary. The song As One Tonight sounds inspired by Victory. Loser, which is near the end of the album, makes clear that the gang has not forgotten guitars and soloing. On The Radio steals a big Megadeth riff though and Love Died is so Soundgarden the band must have noticed. Nonetheless, the four guys in The Order have the chops and writing ability to define modern hard rock and should continue exactly so for the sake of everybody involved. Even the band’s lyrics are embellished with the fragrance of intelligence. - Sheila Wes Det
