THE QUILL - IN TRIUMPH - SPV
The Swedish rockers The Quill have produced a really warm and organic album here that should go down a storm with fans of Soundgarden and Great White. The album’s cover might betray some right-wing jingo tendencies, but for the most part this album gets the spirit of heavy rock right throughout its twelve songs. One can detect a hint of a drum machine here and there - especially on the toms - but In Triumph is chock full of wailing guitars, grungy vocals, good rhythm and dark tones. The standout tracks have to be In The Shadows for its Led Zeppelin riff and Guns N Roses rhythm and general hint of Great White. Triumph Is A Sea Of Flame is another good song and is probably tuned lower than the other tracks. Track number eight, simply called Black, is also outstanding given its moody and emotional hard rock. It doesn’t hurt things that The Quill also features a long-maned good lookin’ gent called Magnus Ekwall. Yeaaah! - Sheila Wes Det
