VATHOS - UNDERWATER - LOUD RAGE MUSIC
This quintet's debut starts off with a catchy so-called melodic black metal song called Ruins Of Corrosion. It is straightforward by most current standards. It maintains its pace, riffs and screams throughout most of its five and a half minutes. The Suicide provides somewhat of a contrast starting slow and not catching up to the opener's speed until suddenly in its final minute. Radu's screaming type vocals remind the listener of a myriad of others in its agony. By Curse Of Apathy a lyrical theme is apparent to match the vocal style. This third song is probably closer to what may be described as post black metal but what is really an arbitrary mix of guitars and other melodies in song writing. Corrupted Mind has a few surprising thrashy sections but when Radu sings he changes the direction of the song. Shape Of... again starts slow promising melancholy more than anything else. It again doesn't last for long as Vathos stay true to the trend of over using variations within the same song. Radu offers a few verses of clean vocals too. Hold My Breath adds some more clean vocals and borders something akin to gothic rock. Sanctimonious Beliefs stays on the same path of abandoning metal at times. Flower Of Death is melodic and catchy and sometimes indistinguishable from the songs before it. – Anna Tergel
