VICIOUS - VILE, VICIOUS & VICTORIOUS - SOUND RIOT
It is not difficult to conclude that a band is out of ideas when it has to repeat its band name as part of its album's title. Swedish newcomers Vicious might have a promising moniker and an equally heavy album name, but the result is little more than a jaded rehash of what has transpired in the past in Sweden. The band's sharp brand of At The Gates-meets-Amon Amarth death metal suffers from a lack of real power or intensity. Vicious' music sounds good on paper, but the quintet imparts a distinct impression that it is simply going though the motions. Inspired moments demonstrating a knack for breaking out of the cliche are rare. Two tracks which manage to stand apart are Life Corrupted and The Feeder Of Evil. Otherwise, the band just keeps chugging along without much merit. - Ali "The Metallian"
