WINTERS - BLACK CLOUDS IN TWIN GALAXIES - CANDLELIGHT
Well, I guess the name 'Winter' was already taken. Furthermore, 'Winters' is so many times colder than a mere winter which should constitute the perfect reason and name for a doom metal band. On first listen and upon album’s start the music sounds like a mix of Joan Jett and, well, Winter. A couple of songs, like Aftershown and No Will, are Black Sabbathy doom, but the overwhelming feeling of this album is one of soft and mellow atmosphere that alternates with oppressive metal. It is as if heavy riffs are wrapped in a silk glove. Aftershown is an unacknowledged but blatant cover of Black Sabbath’s Iron Man. Overall, this is energy draining, flaccid and slacker doom with some interesting lyrics as heard on I’m A Destroyer. I do like the guy with jet-black long manes though. - Sheila Wes Det
