ZZ TOP - XXX - RCA
It's difficult for me to come to grips with the music of ZZ Top. For one thing, the band do not speak to me. I am not enamoured with the culture of flashy cars or glitzy play boys with long legged girl friend. Cruising down Texan back roads with a bottle of Tequila does nothing for me either. It's fun driving to Niagara Falls and hearing 'She's got legs' on the radio, but that's about it for me. So if I am not the band's intended market, then who is? Well, 30 years later (hence the title) the band still pump out their brand of southern boogie'n roll and with tracks like Poke Chop Sandwich and 36-22-36, the band is clearly true to themselves. They've cornered this market and won't be budged come hell or high whiskey, so kudos for honesty, and as such old friends will love this and others, well they'll still go their separate way. - Ali "The Metallian"
