ТЕМНОЛЕСЬЕ – СКАЗАНИЯ – GRIMMDISTRIBUTION
Сказания is the kind of album that drives a person who likes metal, who appreciates music or has a modicum of taste to despair. There is no better way of describing this debut album of a Russia-based band than stressing that anything that could be undesirable about a band exists in ‘Darkshire.’ It is difficult to imagine something worse.
The album begins with an intro that is immediately reminiscent of a native Canadian folk song. Then the album proper arrives and it is a K&F-laden platter baked with harsh vocals underneath. The female vocals fluctuate between flat to shrilly. The drum machine is the backdrop to juvenile keyboard after childish keyboard sound while the weak riffs idle and hang around before going nowhere. Just listen to Гамаюн. A decent band could write those riffs in three minutes before disposing of them.
It is easy to see how this band is inspired by Dimmu Borgir and Emperor, but seriously even those acts would be embarrassed by any association. There is barely any redeeming value to this disc. The best one can say is that the witch on the cover looks pretty. We are clutching at straws here. – Ali “The Metallian”
