History & Biography
The group existed for a year beginning in 1989 before splitting up. Earlier, the teenagers had toyed with the name Unholy Fury. The members used to be in Disaster as well. A demo, called Vulgar Necrolatry, and a self-titled single were issued however. The demo was designed as a ‘Hello Kitty’ edition and came in the colour pink with the affable human girl affixed on the pink background! The Abhorrence single of 1991 was through the famous scam label Seraphic Decay. The band’s drummer lost interest in metal, quit and was replaced by Antidote’s Mika "Arkki" Arnkil. The song Vulgar Necrolatry was later recorded by Amorphis, which had Abhorrence members. Amorphis obtained its deal with Relapse when the American label contacted the Finns for Abhorrence, but Abhorrence had already broken up. Members had lost interest in underground and metal had drifted into other interests. Jukka Kolehmainen later became a writer for the Finnish metal webzine Imperiumi.net.

Abhorrence returned in 2012 with drummer Rainer Tuomikanto joining in 2013. A compilation called Completely Vulgar was issued. Waltteri Väyrynen joined in 2016. The reformed and Finland-based Abhorrence had a mini-album called Megalohydrothalassophobic through Svart Records on 14.09.2018.

Abhorrence had a video for the song Old Age, Sickness And Death Metal in 2025. The song was a tribute to early death metal bands. Each line of the song’s lyrics mentioned an album from the late ’80s and early ’90s’ death metal. The video featured animated versions of covers of many albums namechecked in the lyrics. The cover of the single was inspired by Possessed‘s Seven Churches and was created by Olli Nurminen, the guitarist of Xysma.
