History & Biography Belgian gore metal band Aborted was formed in the halfway mark of the '90s and released a demo called The Necrotorous Chronicles before co-operating with Christ Denied on a split-CD. The Purity Of Perversion independent demo followed independently.
Next up was an independent album called Engineering The Dead. Next up the act entered the studio to cover Napalm Death for a four-way CD with Brodequin, Misery Index and Drowning. The band worked with Danish producer Jacob Hansen to record Goremageddon for Listenable Records. A tour with Immolation soon followed. The band was also booked for the Maryland Death fest with Suffocation, Pyrexia and others.
The band released a new mini-CD called The Haematobic on April 19th, 2004 just in time for its tour with Cannibal Corpse and others. Later that month, the Belgians announced the addition of drummer Gilles Delecroix to the group. Gilles replaces long-time drummer Frank.
The boys entered the studio in late 2004 with producer Tue Madsen to record a new full-length album. It was tentatively entitled The Archaic Abattoir. This album was issued in the spring of 2005 and was licensed for America by Olympic Recordings. Guitarist Bart Vergaert left in the spring seemingly growing tired of the band's music and looking to form his own act. The band was in the midst of playing select shows in the USA and was shooting a video for the track Dead Wreckoning with director Darren Doane in California. Century Media Records announced the worldwide signing of Belgian death/grinders in the summer of 2005. The band hit the road in the autumn with Suffocation, Cryptopsy and Despised Icon. The group parted ways with drummer Gilles Delecroix and bass player Olivia Scemama due to financial difficulties and disagreements in autumn of 2006. The band’s new bassist was one Peter Goemaere. Reviews ABORTED - GOREMAGEDON - LISTENABLE
Aborted's third album, sub-titled The Saw And The Carnage Done, lives up to its gory name. The Belgian butchers are above average in their chosen genre. The music, riffs and rhythms are substantial, the obligatory movie samples are kept to a minimum and no extraneous influences can be detected throughout the album. Aborted has the vocals of Per formerly of Deranged, coupled with the usual higher screeches, the blast of Napalm Death and certainly the tonality of Carcass. It is also quite clear that the music functions better during the faster parts, which appropriately constitute the majority of the material. A well-versed guitarist and a full sound just add to the cause. On top of that the band and label have included a cool video clip of the band on the CD as well. Watch for the Arch Enemy-inspired solo on the filmed song Meticulous Invagination as well. What else can one demand from the genre? - Ali "The Metallian"
ABORTED - THE ARCHAIC ABATTOIR - OLYMPIC
The Archaic Abattoir is ten songs of non-stop gory death metal. Aborted have moved away form their earlier Carcass-like sound as this release is more American sounding and is more reminiscent of the likes of Broken Hope and Malevolent Creation. The sometimes barking vocals of Sven De Caluwe are also more typical of the American style. From the opener Dead Wreckoning all the way to the closing song Descend To Extirpation Aborted takes Carcass’ Heartwork as a starting point and add many more death metal elements that take the listener to Florida and beyond. Not the most original of albums but never lacking a punch, this is 36 minutes well spent. - Anna Tergel

ABORTED - THE AURICULAR CHRONICLES (DVD) - LISTENABLE
A 13-song live set recorded in Paris in May 2006 is the main offering of The Auricular Chronicles. The Belgians cover the earlier material with the likes of The Holocaust Incarnate and The Sanctification Of Fornication to material from their last studio release on Listenable, The Archaic Abattoir. The band is tight and the performance worthy of any death metal show. The quality of the recording is above average and the camera use is good, but not superior or in the vein of the Metal Mind series of DVDs. Three video clips, Dead Wreckoning, Meticulous Invagination and A Cold Logistic Slaughter, are also included as are footage from Waken Open Air 2006, and bootlegs from shows in Rome and Montreal. - Anna Tergel
ABORTED - STRYCHNINE.213 - CENTURY MEDIA
On the bio accompanying Strychnine.213 there is a promise that Aborted will not take the “overly edited” route. Perhaps this is a clue that the start-break-start and pointless tempo changes guised under the ”˜technical’ term may be a dying trend. Ophiolatry On A Hemocite Platter follows the opening intro, Carrion, and carries a few hints of the band’s Carcass-like history. 135 is generally faster, especially in the blasting drums. Pestiferous Subterfuge is European and American death metal in a mix of heavy riffs, melodic solos, and fast parts that although varied retain a coherent structure. The Chyme Congeries is heavy, traditional and barring a few seconds of strange effects very much death metal. A Murmur In Decrepit Wits is a mix of heaviness, gore, melodic solos and blast beats, but as before none feels out of place. Enterrement Of An Idol is at times doomy and features some double vocals, but since the second is screaming and not clean or spoken word it remains tolerable. The double vocals make another appearance on Hereditary Bane. Avarice Of Vilification and The Obfuscate close out this good dose of the heavy and the fast. Aborted succeed in having enough melody and variation without sacrificing anything. - Anna Tergel
