History & Biography The Genoa-based doom metal band was founded in 1996. Aside from semi-regular albums, the band has issued EP after compilation after live albums. There was a core to the band, but many members did come and as many did go, Funeral (1998) and Mors Te Audit (1999) were the early demos. Bassist and singer Lord Alastair took his leave to instead focus on his fiefdom in 1998. He would become the bassist soon instead. Piano player Labes C. Necrothytus also picked up the microphone in 1999. Mors Eleison was the 2006 demo. Goth influences were unfortunately present. Tracks from the 2006 demo were added as a bonus to the 2007 self-titled release. This was a much delayed release having been recorded two years earlier. This record featured Regen Graves on guitars, drums and keyboards, Labes C. Necrothytus on vocals and again keyboards and bassist Lord Alastair.
Alexander Baël was the new drummer on Misfortune. Funeral Fvkk opened for Abysmal Grief in 2022. Avantgarde Music was issuing Abysmal Grief's Taetra Philosophia in late 2025. The label had issued the band's 2023 compilation, Despise The Living, Desecrate The Dead, as well as a couple of live records.
The group has consistently played miscellaneous gigs around Europe. Cancer, Abysmal Grief and Deathcult toured in 2016. Abysmal Grief and Light Of The Morning Star toured in 2018.
