History & Biography
Acherontas, stylized as Αχέροντας as of 2021, was founded after the death of the black metal Stutthof in 2007. The act considers itself black metal with a ‘70s’ rock influence. The act has used the slogan “art serves the elite” in the past.

The act began as a solo endeavour before members were added. They have come and gone as regularly as split releases, live recordings and compilations. Members have comprised of dedicated musicians (drummer Dothur or bassist Hierophant), mercenary drummers who collect a fee as they go from band to band (Nick Samios or Gionata Potenti) and one-off obscure personalities (bassist Typhonios or drummer Krieg). Main man V.P. Adept himself is liable to be in a new act every few months. V.P. is an acronym for ‘Vampire Priest.’ This priest also runs Zazen Sounds.

The band announced a tour with black metallers Inferno and Norwegians Djevelkult for Europe in 2019. Acherontas was to head out to Latin America for a couple of dates in June of that year.

Drakonian Elitism is a split release featuring Ofermod, Black Altar And Acherontas. It was released through Odium Records either in September or October 2023. Acherontas had an advance song, called Serpent’s Oath: Hymns Of The Coiled Void, prior to the release of Νekyia - The Necromantic Patterns, which was available through Zazen Sounds and III Damnation Productions in April 2025. The band was booked for Metal Threat Fest in the USA in 2025. The band was now including guitarists R.C. and Aetherist, bassist Noktvrnal Veitha and drummer Atum. It was unclear whether these were meant to be permanent members or session players because they were all band hopping from project to project. The band signed with Osmose Production at the end of 2025. The schedule called for a new album in 2026.
