History & Biography Formed in Maidstone, England in 1980, the band had two melodic hard rock albums before being dropped by RCA. It was rumoured that former Iron Maiden drummer Clive Burr was in the band for a short period in 1983. This, however, was later vehemently denied by the band's manager Tony Tullett who had actually put the band together. Burr had, in fact, joined the American Alcatrazz. An early second guitarist was called Dave Saunders. British/Aussie singer Craig Pinkney was recruited through a classified advert.
The band was often compared to April Wine although Radio 5 was more commercial and standard rock. Alkatrazz had toured with The Tygers Of Pang Tang, Magnum and Samson as well as
done its own UK tour and headlined the Marquee in London twice. Gary Bevan was fired before the end and replaced by Phillip Tame who was the band's sound engineer. The band, now without Bevan and with a stand-in bassist, was invited to play live on Tommy Vance’s BBC Radio One Friday Rock Show in 1982.
The band announced a reformation and shows for 2006. A compilation CD was also in the works.
